POSITION CONTEXT

The Social Emotional Well-Being Team Leader is part of the Program Services Team of Mawarnkarra Health Service. The Service’s objective is to provide holistic, primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of the West Pilbara region.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:45pm with 45minutes (unpaid) for lunch daily. You are to be ready for work no later than 8:30am daily.
  • Other conditions of employment are identified in your contract for employment.
  • All Mawarnkarra employees are required to comply with all policies in force at the time of commencement of employment and those implemented from time to time.
  • As part of the orientation program, employees are required to sign declarations and agreement pursuant to policies of the Health Service.

 

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The role of the Social Emotional Well-Being Team Leader is to provide support to Aboriginal people to receive services that improve their knowledge of healthy lifestyle behaviours.  The role focuses on:

  • improving knowledge of behavioural risk factors for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
  • assisting and measuring positive healthy lifestyle behaviour changes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
  • assisting and measuring positive behaviours related to connection to Country, family and/or community

 

The roles are to provide a combination of group education and individual support to achieve the above in line with the program plan and program target.  The program is called Social, Emotional and Wellbeing.

 

 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to present to large groups and to assist individuals one on one
  • Ability to develop program materials
  • Ability to negotiate complex issues with clients.

  • Ability to identify situations where a more senior staff member is required for assistance.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and demonstrated organisational skills.
  • Ability to liaise and develop relationships within the Aboriginal community of the area.
  • Understanding of cultural factors when dealing with Aboriginal & TSI clients.
  • Commitment to ongoing participation in education, professional development, evidence based research and quality assurance.

DUTIES

  1. Provide group education to support improving knowledge of behavioural risk factors (drugs, alcohol, bullying, lack of activity, depression and so on) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
  • Plan program work for the year with assistance and approval from management
  • Identify appropriate target audiences, based on evidence and direction from management towards those groups that have knowledge improvement needs
  • Develop program materials based on evidence (with support from subject matter experts)
  • Ensure program material is reviewed, following relevant Policy prior to presentation
  • Record group education within Communicare as directed by management
  1. Undertake activities that support positive healthy lifestyle behaviour changes and / or positive behaviours related to connection to Country, family and/or community for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
  • Plan program work for the year with assistance and approval from management
  • Identify appropriate target audiences, based on evidence and direction from management towards those groups that have knowledge improvement needs
  • Develop program activities and materials based on evidence (with support from subject matter experts)
  • Ensure program activities and material are reviewed, following relevant Policy prior to presentation
  • Record group activities within Communicare as directed by management

 

  1. Undertake individual, one on one support, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island individuals around increasing their knowledge of behavioural risk factors and support positive healthy lifestyle behaviour.
  • Record individual client assistance within Communicare
  • Utilise patient alerts and To Do list within Communicare to support the individual achieve positive health outcomes
  1. Undertake promotion of the Social Emotional Wellbeing program utilising MHS Facebook, MHS Web site.
  2. Assist MHS with running community events and health promotion activities as required.
  3. Professional responsibilities:
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct
  • Participate in and contribute to the fulfilment of operational needs of the organisation as they
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with all Mawarnkarra policies and
  • Participate in maintaining a safe working
  • Supervise and delegation to SEWB Support Worker.
  • Undertake activities and work direction as requested by management

 

EDUCATION

Attend and participate in the professional development program and relevant external seminars and conferences, as approved.

 

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

Performance will be appraised on an on-going basis and formally at the first 3 months and annually thereafter.

Consent to undergo a Working with Children Check and a National Police Certificate. Employment is conditional pending the outcome of these checks.

Current Drivers Licence.

Current CPR Certificate.

COVID-19 Vaccinated. (triple vax as per government mandate for all health care workers)

All employees are subject to regular random drug and alcohol testing.
